hermione granger → deathly hallows part 1

/OH MY GOD MORE IMPORTANTLY CAN YOU WRITE HERMIONE/ROSE???????/
(within a slashes because it's supposed to be bigger caps than the last ask) — formerlyinloversmeeting

[this started as a fic but i didn’t have a plot so it’s just rose and hermione sort of progressing into a relationship and sharing moments]

Rose Tyler has never been a big reader. The library at Hogwarts, though, is almost enough to tempt her with it’s massive stacks of books and the faint musty smell that only really good books can bring. But then there’s Madame Pince staring down at her and Rose feels self-conscious about her chosen books anyway. Time travel is still a bit of a cooky subject, even in the Wizarding World. So Rose stays clear of the library, preferring to stay outside or lounge around the kitchens with her mate Mickey (a Hufflepuff, but she tries not to hold that against him).

Well, Rose Tyler did stay clear of the library until she caught sight of Hermione Granger. Rose can appreciate shapely curves as much as hard angles. For Rose, it’s never been physical. It’s been about the adventure they can share together, the knowledge and jokes and fun and teasing and sharing they can do together.

Classism still runs rampant in Hogwarts and a girl like Rose isn’t exactly making tons of friends. She thinks she might have found a kindred spirit in Hermione. Rose notices she hangs out with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, but always hovering at the edges. So when Hermione Granger corrects her wand movement in Charms, then helps her with her Potions (even with Snape breathing down their necks), and then finally offers a tentative branch of friendship to her, Rose snatches it and hangs on.

Hermione’s offer of meeting up and studying in the library is tentative and unsure but Rose responds with the biggest smile she can muster and an enthusiastic nod.

But the occasional meet up in the library becomes a daily thing, then a twice a day, then it becomes a anytime-we-have-free-time thing. Rose, who used to sit alone at meals, is now surrounded by a mass of bushy hair and stacks of books.

Hermione doesn’t think time travel is cooky, instead, lowering her voice and leaning in closer and making Rose promise not to tell anyone tells Rose about time turners. Rose can feel her face stretched from how hard she’s smiling because Hermione doesn’t think time travel is cooky and indulges Rose’s dreams of advancing magic to that point—even shares those dreams. Rose feels her heart flutter when Hermione graces her with a look beneath lowered lashes and she wonders when Hermione’s presence stopped becoming a luxury and started becoming a necessity.

Rose loves the way the library feels like home now with Hermione at her side, a hand on her back to guide her to the next aisle over, or a hushed giggle in her ear as they dodge the scouring looks of Madame Pince.

When Hermione’s touches become purposeful, a hand on her shoulder, thumb stroking the soft skin of her clavicle, or casually brushing the loose bit of hair out of Rose’s face, Rose starts to think that maybe Hermione is feeling that jump of butterflies in her stomach as well.

Rose is there to dry Hermione’s tears and murmur how grateful she is for Hermione’s friendship when Hermione hides her face into a thick tome after a fight with Ron and Harry. Hermione is there when Rose has to let Mickey down and he turns nasty briefly, calling her horrid names she’s afraid to repeat back to Hermione.

Hermione has slipped into every facet of Rose’s life—library, class, Great Hall, early morning walks around the lake (Hermione likes to brush her hands across the dew laden grass).

Rose is a Gryffindor and when something as good as Hermione Granger comes into her life, she has to buck up and let her know.

It’s in the quiet of the library that she once was terrified of, in the hushed silence, between a brush of Hermione’s foot against her leg, that Rose lets slip that she might be a little bit in love with Hermione.

It’s also in the quiet of the library she once hated that Hermione squeezes her hand, slips her foot between her legs beneath their shared library table, and presses a chaste kiss on Rose’s flushed cheek and murmurs, ‘Finally’ that Rose understands the library feels like home because Hermione is home.
